Fenoldopam is a selective agonist to peripheral DA1-receptors, which produce vasodilatation, increase renal perfusion, and enhance natriuresis. Fenoldopam has a short duration of action: the elimination half-life is less than 10 minutes. Fenoldopam has important applications as a parenteral therapy for high risk hypertensive surgical patients, in the perioperative management of patient undergoing renal and other organ transplantation, and following radiocontrast medium injection in high risk patients.
